Grancari Estate Wines
Organic, vegan friendly wines
Rino and Greta Ozzella of Grancari Estate Wines specialise in certified organic, single vineyard Grenache, Shiraz and Merlot.
Grancari Estate is located in the famous wine region of McLaren Vale, just 45 minutes south of Adelaide. The origins of this small, family owned winery dates back to the early 1940’s when George Cox planted Shiraz and Grenache vines to compliment the McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean climate.
The vines were neglected for several decades after George sold the property, until the Ozzella family took over in 1983. Using traditional knowledge handed down from his Italian family, Rino restored the original vines to full health.
Because they are certified organic growers, the Ozzellas must manage their vineyards carefully. They handpick and prune each vine so only the best fruit makes the cut. The vines sit on a westerly slope, facing the sea on mixture of light, loamy soils and limestone ridges. A constant sea breeze extends the ripening period, producing rich, full bodied wines.
Sticking to bare earth, organic methods in the vineyard, in the winery Rino uses a mix of French and American oak barrels directly imported from a small boutique cooper in France. Grancari wines are not fined using animal products, meaning that the entire range is vegan friendly.
Try Grancari Estate wines every Sunday at their stall inside the pavilion at the Adelaide Farmers’ Market.
