Kids Corner – Bee Hotel Workshop

World Bee Day hands-on activity for children

  • 24 May 2026

To mark World Bee Day, Kids Corner is hosting a hands-on Bee Hotel workshop to help children learn how they can support Australia’s native bees right at home.

As land is cleared for housing and development, natural nesting spaces for bees disappear. Around 30% of native Australian bees nest in existing cavities, and simple structures like bee hotels can provide a safe place for them to rest and raise their young. This includes species such as resin bees, leafcutter bees and masked bees.

With guidance from Paulie and our wonderful market volunteers, children will use recycled tin cans and natural materials to create their own bee hotel to take home. Along the way, they’ll learn why bees matter, how pollination supports our food system, and how small actions can make a real difference.

A relaxed, practical activity designed to spark curiosity, care for nature, and connection to the food we grow and eat.

Please note
This is a free activity. Donations are welcome to help support our Kids Corner program. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
