Real food, real learning, real fun

Discover Children’s University Australasia and Africa at the Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market. It’s a chance for curious kids aged 7 to 14 (and younger ones with a parent or carer) to learn where their food comes from by exploring a real working farmers’ market.

Children follow a self-guided trail around the market, meeting local farmers, spotting seasonal produce, and learning why growing food in South Australia matters. It’s hands-on learning that builds food knowledge, encourages healthy choices, and helps kids understand the role farmers play in caring for our land.

Before you start

Children need to be registered with Children’s University Australasia and Africa to take part. If you’re not already enrolled, please visit the Children’s University website to sign up before heading to the market.

How it works

Collect a worksheet and pencil from the Information Stand at the northern entrance. The trail takes around 30 minutes and guides children to look closely at unusual fruit and vegetables, ask questions, and notice what’s truly in season. When they’re done, passports are stamped back at the Information Stand.

Kids’ Corner counts too

We run regular Kids’ Club activities in our Kids’ Corner, and these sessions also count toward Children’s University accreditation. From simple food activities to seasonal craft, it’s a great way for kids to connect with local food and the people who grow it. Check our our Coming Events page for scheduled activities.

Get involved

Whether you visit once or come every Sunday, Children’s University is an easy way to turn a morning at the market into genuine learning. Pick up a worksheet, chat to our stallholders, and let the kids discover the world of local food at their own pace.
